Blog update
So it's been a while since we updated last. Ok more then a while,
nearly an eternity.
Since we were last here we have been very busy. So a brief recap:
After Addie was born in February we decided to put big trips on hold
for a month or two. We spent most of march enjoying our new daughter,
watching her grow and doing smaller day trips. She rolled over on our
bed when she was 5 days old and was so tired, she promptly passed out!
April saw my parents come visit. First Phil came in early April. We
met him in k-town at the train station amid a massive crowd of FCK
supporters. We showed him heidelberg and the castle and all around
Landstuhl.
At the end of the month Amy came and was joined by aunt Susan on a
stopover from Turkey, quite a distance from her Bali home. We took
Addie's first train ride, an ICE train to Paris for an exciting day
exploring one of our favorite cities. We also went to Heidelberg for
another adventure and got to see some brand new sights for us. We
spent another day exploring the Rhein river towns and had lunch at
Burg Lichtenburg with amazing views over the river and valley below.
In May David had to pull call over the long weekend, so no big trip
this month.but we did have our friends Rob and Jill visit us from
Belgium for a long weekend. We went exploring with them and saw Trier
Germany and spent a fun day exploring Luxembourg City. This tiny
country is only 45 mins away and was a beautiful day trip.
Our big travels picked back up in June. We had decided to celebrate
our anniversary a month late and chose one of our favorite countries;
Italy. We took Addison on her first airplane flight. We went to the
warm and sunny Italian island of Sardinia. There we stayed at an
awesome b&b in the city of Alghero and we ate lots of delicious
seafood, incredible gelato and enjoyed the sun and sandy beaches. We
also took a boat ride (Addie's first) out to the Neptune's grottoes.
The Italians cooed over our adorable baby girl who got to see her
first beach.
June also had our first of two big week-long beach relaxation trips.
We went to Crete, an island off the coast of Greece for a stay in an
all-inclusive resort. Our room had a view of the sea and Addie got her
first chance to swim in a pool, which she loved. We also met Natalie,
Steve ad their son Oliver who were visiting from England. Oliver is a
month older than Addie and they had lots of fun playing together. We
ate lots of great food, including fresh crepes and waffles. We relaxed
by the beach and by the pool soaking in the sun and playing with Addie
July took us to our favorite trip to date; Montenegro. We took a
flight into Dubrovnik Croatia and then had a 2 hour drive along the
Mediterranean coast which included a ferry across the sea. Montenegro
is a smaller country that lacks a huge tourism industry. Our hotel was
beautifully located on the hill overlooking the coast, the beaches
just below.
The weather was sunny and warm, the views from the indoor/outdoor pool
were picturesque. We had great seafood at the resort and in the small
town below along the beach. We also took an amazing boat ride around Kotor Bay. It was a beautiful way to spend, complete with a huge and amazing lunch and 2 liters of wine for us to share.
Our trip to Montenegro crossed us into August and was a great location to spend my 29th birthday! The month of August saw the Reznick clan exploring the surrounding area each weekend and taking advantage of a good solid month of sun and warmth.
The end of August and beginning of september we took a road trip up to Belgium and France to visit our friends Rob and Jill and explore the largest flea market in Europe. Addie loved the car ride (she slept a lot) and Tiff enjoyed the built in DVD player while I drove through the belgian countryside. We had a great time exploring Brussels and the surrounding area and the flea market was awesome! Tiff made lots of great finds for very cheap prices. We ate giant macaroons and drank belgian beers.
September came and with it summer disappeared. We still enjoyed a few wine festivals, and the beginning of Redskins season! Addie loved her first skins game and her outfit even more! Addison and Tiffany went with Cynthia to Luxembourg for an exciting day trip as well as to an awesome zoo in France. David went with Pete and Liz to Canstadt Volkfest (a more authentic and less touristy Oktoberfest) in Stuttgart.
Tiffany was able to cross picking wine grapes and making wine off her bucket list in October when she went to Alf Germany with the Ski Club. October was also tiffany's 30th birthday month! Celebrated with dinner on the 21st floor of a high-rise in Kaiserslautern with a group of our friends. A few days later we took off on another great adventure, this time to Ireland! We flew into Dublin, drove to Galway, then Kilarney, followed by Waterford and then back to Dublin. Along the way we saw some of the most beautiful country ever including the Cliffs of Moher, the Ring of Kerry and the Irish countryside and coastline. We finished off the trip in the Guiness storehouse. October was also halloween and addie wanted to be a pumpkin this year (good choice, since mommy liked the same costume!)
November marked the firs time Tiffany left Addison and Daddy alone for more then a few hours. She went skiing in Hintertux Austria. Addie and Daddy had a long 4-day weekend together and we had a great time! We missed Tiffany (mommy) a lot, but had fun together. Later that month we spend the thanksgiving weekend in Rothenburg (the walled city) Germany. It was a beautiful place and we wish we had visited sooner. We had a great hotel in the city with amazing views and we met our friends Aaron, Heather and Baby Noah for dinner and exploring. The nightwatchman's tour was very interesting and funny too!
December usually brings snow to Germany, but no such luck! We spent Christmas eve and Christmas morning in Heidelberg in a villa along the Neckar River. the 3 of us had a wonderful dinner in a posh restaurant before retreating to our villa for some shut eye. Addie was so excited to see what santa brought, that she woke up at 3am to open presents! We all got a little more sleep before we all woke up to open presents.
A few days later we were off on the road again, this time a road trip to Salzburg Austria. We had a hotel in the heart of the old city and enjoyed exploring the city via hop-on hop-off bus as well as on foot. We had great food, good shopping and a beautiful view from the castle on the hill in the middle of the city. Tiffany and I bought a lock, which we put our names and date on, and locked it on the railings of the bridge crossing the river in the heart of the city! Maybe one day we will return and see if the lock is still there! The drive was the longest car ride for addie (clocking in at 8 hours)
